| Storyline |
| Deep in the forest on a cold, moonless night, the crisp stillness is shattered by the distant, haunting call of an owl. As if answering, a lone wolf barks three times, followed by a long, lonesome howl.
Farther away, a group of wolves respond in a harmony of wildness. For a few moments, the woods are filled with an untuned symphony of yelps, barks and howls. Then again, silence.
She is awakened. An uneasy chill moves over her, shivering as she clutches the heavy buffalo robe tighter around her. Risen from a warm bed in her lodge, she has stepped into a dark, snow covered wilderness.
As she carefully and deliberately steps through the newly fallen snow, it crunches softly under her bare feet. Even though she can feel the snow compressing beneath her feet, she feels no cold.
The frigid silence is broken again, once more, a call from an owl, only much louder this time. He is very close.
Turning toward the direction of the sound, she is startled as she sees the owl, perched like a ghost on a staff in front of a familiar lodge. It is the lodge of her Grandfather. As she moves toward this ghostly presence, the owl turns and looks at her with an all-knowing stare. Unsure, she slowly reaches out to him just as he quietly and mysteriously disappears into the darkness.
At dawn, she awakens. Warm sunlight dances down through the faint smoke rising up from the still smoldering lodge fire. She lies comfortably in her warm bed of soft buffalo robes and deer skins and watches the smoke drifting up through the shafts of warm sunlight.
Gradually she starts to have memories of the previous night. Shadowy thoughts at first run through her mind, fleeting images, mysterious yet familiar. Dreamy visions of ghostly sights and sounds that seem so real, yet unreal, meaningful, meaningless, meaning what?
Perhaps it was a dream....or...perhaps this is dream.

Afoot, Alone and Thirty Below
Life is full of storms. They may be in the form of a great challenge or an unexpected hardship, many times they can be almost more than we can bear, even life-threatening. This is when the human spirit calls on us to fight back, push on, and you will overcome. Never, never, never give up, no matter how great the odds against you, press on, persevere, you can win, you can weather the storm.
